Skinfood Cafe and Concept Store Garosugil

A little bit over 3 months ago I went to Seoul to be there for almost that time. Being there for the second time I didn't have much left to do as a tourist, as I already visited almost all of it 2 summers ago when I first went to visit the country. However, I never went to Garosugil (kind of like the Rodeo Drive of Seoul let's say... a very expensive, trendy a posh area of Gangnam, where a lot of Skincare brands have special stores). So obviously, when I first had the opportunity to go, I took it and visited a couple of these special stores (and more, but those are not relevant to the blog).


Hace poco más de 3 meses fui a Seoul para estar allí durante casi ése periodo de tiempo. Era mi segunda vez ya allí así que no tenía demasiado que hacer como turista, cuando fui hace 2 años en verano lo vi prácticamente todo. Pero nunca fui a Garosugil (digamos que es parecido al Rodeo Drive de Seúl... una calle muy cara, de moda y pija del barrio de Gangnam, donde muchas marcas de maquillaje y cuidado de la piel tienen tiendas especiales). Así que, por supuesto, cuando tuve la primera oportunidad de ir, no me lo pensé y visité un par de tiendas especiales (y más cosas, pero no relevantes para el blog).

The Skinfood concept store is located in the main street, Garosugil (you just kind of bump into it). It's a 3 story building: first floor for the store ("Food & Beauty Lifestyle Store"), second one for the cafe and third one an open rooftop with a terrace ("City Farm").

La tienda "concepto" de Skinfood es un edificio de 3 plantas situado en la calle principal, Garosugil (es como que te lo encuentras de repente. Las 3 plantas, tal y como se ve en la foto anterior son: primera planta para la tienda (la llaman Tienda de estilo de vida de comida y belleza), la segunda para la cafetería y la tercera una azotea adecuada para terraza (que llaman Granja de ciudad).

The rest of Skinfood stores in Seoul aren't similar to this one, since there are so many of them, and the decoration is just a display of the product. This isn't a bad thing or unique to Skinfood, when there are so many brands with that many stores, decoration isn't a top priority and I respect that.


Las demás tiendas de Skinfood en Seúl no son como ésta y, como hay tantas de ellas, la decoración de las mismas son simplemente la exhibición de las productos. Esto no es algo malo o especial de Skinfood, cuando hay tantas marcas con tantas tiendas, la decoración no es una prioridad, cosa que respeto.

It's not the case in this Skinfood concept store. The feeling you get just entering the store is of a vegetable/fruit farm, everything neatly arrange to give you that feeling. Even the ceiling had really cool and pretty lamps, and everywhere in the store there's something reminding you that the store you're in uses, in fact, food.


No es el caso con la tienda concepto de Skinfood. Al entrar se siento ya una sensación parecida a l que se puede tener al entrar a granjas de frutas/verduras, todo muy bien dispuesto para ayudar a ello. Incluso el techo tenía decoración pensada, con lámparas vistosas, y por todas partes en la tienda había algo que te recordaba que estás en una tienda en la que la marca usa como ingredientes comida.

Some skincare lines where arranged in a more eye catching way than other, that's the case of their newest line, Aqua Grape, or their vitamin C line, Yuja Water.

Algunas líneas de cuidado de la piel estaban colocadas de forma que llamaran más la atención, como es el caso de la nueva línea, Aqua Grape, o la de Vitmaina C, Yuja Water.

Those are not the only things arranged in a very eye-catching way. In the center of the store makeup and some skincare is very well displayed in a table, again without forgetting to add "something food" here and there.

Pero esos productos no son los únicos que están dispuestos para llamar la atención. En el centro de la tienda hay una expositor enorme, donde está mezclado el maquillaje con productos de cuidado de la piel, por supuesto sin olvidarse la decoración con "comida".

This store is definitely more taken care off. Products aren't dirty and all the ones my friend and I tried had testers, something that doesn't happen in the regular stores.


Definitivamente ésta tienda está muy cuidada. Los productos no están sucios y todos los que mi amiga y yo quisimos probar tenían probadores, cosa que a muchas veces no ocurre en las tiendas comunes.

At the end of the table there's even a sink for people to try their different masks in a proper way.


Al final del expositor/mesa incluso hay un lavabo para poder probar correctamente las mascarillas.

All concept stores have a unique product to them that you can't buy in the other "regular" stores.  The product here is these jelly masks, that obviously reminiscence of home made jam. I find them to be quite expensive so I din't buy any, but they sure look pretty!


En todas las tiendas concepto existen producto únicos para ella, que no se pueden comprar en el resto de las tiendas de la marca. Los productos en éste caso con éstas mascarillas que obviamente recuerdan a mermelada hecha en casa. Me pareció que tienen un precio bastante alto por lo que no compré ninguna, pero ¡son tan bonitas!

There are other items that are supposedly exclusive tot his store, like the previous photos suggest, but I got Horse Fat masks in the duty free so I'm not sure about that. One thing I didn't really like, or understand why it was there, was the makeup "set"... it doesn't really fit.


Hay otros productos que se supone que también sólo se venden en ésta tienda, como la foto de arriba sugiere, pero me dieron mascarillas de grasa de caballo en el duty free del aeropuerto así que tampoco estoy muy segura de ello. Una cosa que no me gustó, o no entendía porqué estaba ahí, era ése "set" de maquillaje... no pega nada con el resto de la tienda.

Everything in the store is very well designed, even the stairs to the up floors remind of a greenhouse.


Todo en la tienda está muy bien diseñado, incluso las escaleras recuerdan a las de una granja/invernadero.

The cafe on the second floor is, again, very well designed. On the first table you see after entering there's a display of products and, just in case you forget where you are, there's also a display of masks and products in a corner of the room, left from the entrance.


La cafetería en la segunda planta está, como ya he dicho, muy bien diseñada. En la primera mesa que uno se encuentra al entrar hay una selección de productos y, por si acaso te olvidas de donde estás, a la izquierda de la entrada hay un expositor también con mascarillas y productos.

Another thing I didn't really get, even when I watched videos about it, was this summer "photobooth" (there are masks you can take photos with) corner. I don't think it suits the aesthetic of the rest of the store. I know they change this depending on the newest launch, in these photos the Aqua Grape line, but I don't think any of the ones I've seen suits the store.


Otra cosa que tampoco "pillé", incluso viendo vídeos sobre la tienda, es la zona "photobooth" (como las cabinas fotomatón, en la zona esa hay máscaras etc para poder sacarse fotos). No creo que quede bien con el resto de la decoración de la tienda. Sé que se cambia dependiendo la última línea lanzada, en éstas fotos la Aqua Grape, pero no creo que haya visto ninguna que quede bien.

There are also books about the brand, and delicious looking food and drinks that was too expensive for my friend and I to buy. Sorry, Skinfood.


Hay libros sobre las marca y comida y bebidas que parecían geniales, pero que era demasiado cara para que mi amiga y yo compráramos. Se siente, Skinfood.

The design and decoration of the cafe is very cozy and very well thought, very comfortable chairs and defining different atmospheres but still being unifying.


El diseño y decoración de la cafetería es muy cálido y muy bien pensado, sillas muy cómodas y definiendo diferentes ambientes a la vez que unen todo.

They also sold real jam, which I was tempted to buy but, again, that price.


Vendían también mermelada de verdad, pero de nuevo, el precio.

In the corner I mentioned earlier there was some short of special promotion going on, where you got a facial recognition for free if you bought at least a mask (maybe it was a Black Sugar mask?).


En la zona a la izquierda de la entrada que os he mencionada antes había alguna promoción, donde te hacían un reconocimiento facial gratis si comprabas por lo menos una mascarilla (¿creo que una mascarilla de la línea Black Sugar?).

The third floor was a little disappointing because, do you see all those dead plants? Poor things. I went there at the end of April beginning of May so the weather was still a little bit chilly, but this can be a very nice spot in summer.


La tercera planta, la terraza, fue un poco decepcionante porque ¿veis todas ésas plantas muertas? Pobrecitas. Fui allí a finales de abril o principios de mayo por lo que el tiempo todavía era algo frío, pero ésta terraza puede estar bastante bien en verano.

I wouldn't say this is something you need to see if you go to Seoul, but definitely a nice and different place to visit if you have enough time. But can somebody explain to me why they have a "car" similar to a Volkswagen Multivan on the outside? I just don't see the relation the whole "food for the skin" aesthetic...


No diría que ésta tienda es algo que tienes que ver si vas a Seúl, pero es definitivamente algo diferente que visitar si se tiene el tiempo suficiente. Pero por favor, ¿puede alguien explicarme porqué tienen una furgoneta parecida a las Volkswagen Multivan fuera? Es que de verdad que no encuentro la relación con todo lo demás...
